Emergency parcels contain three-day's worth of non-perishable foods

A Salisbury-based food bank charity has reported a higher than expected demand for help over the Christmas period.

The Trussell Trust said it distributed more than 250 Christmas hampers but received a 20% increase in additional requests for emergency food boxes.

These contain three days-worth of non-perishable food such as pasta, tinned meats and long-life fruit juice.

Trust spokesman Mark Ward said a number of factors could be to blame including the review of tax credits.
