A 13th Century church has been awarded £50,000 by the Heritage Lottery Fund and English Heritage for repairs to its walls, roof and wall paintings.

St Mary's Church, in Lydiard Tregoze, near Swindon, is one of eight in the South West to receive money.

Paintings from the 13th to the 19th Century were discovered at the church during restoration in the early 1900s.

The Church of St James the Great in South Gloucestershire received £161,000 for porch and roof repairs.
