Planners want to keep a buffer zone between the water park and the proposed homes

Fresh plans for nearly 900 homes on land in Swindon have been deferred.

Developers previously wanted to build 1,500 houses on the site near Coate Water, south east of the town, but these were turned down in 2009.

Swindon Borough Council planners said the decision had been delayed until concerns over separating the homes from the water park have been resolved.

A spokesman for Persimmon Homes said it would be inappropriate for it to comment at this stage.

Councillor Colin Lovell, chair of the planning committee, said there were a number of issues which had to be clarified.

"The most important one was the buffer zone between Coate Water Park and the proposed development," he said.

"What we want to do is secure that [land] in perpetuity.

"Members of the committee wanted to make sure it was a very strong agreement and therefore we wanted to talk with the developer and make sure that can be done."
