Swindon-born explorer David Hempleman-Adams is due to embark on a 60-day trip to climb Mount Everest's north side.
Mr Hempleman-Adams, 54, who lives in Box, will be leading a 12-man team trying to raise £1m for Alzheimer's Research UK.
At the north summit, which is 29,000ft above sea level, the team will plant a Union Jack and the flag of the Explorers' Club.
The explorer has previously climbed Everest's 23,000ft south peak.
