Wiltshire-based entrepreneur James Dyson has made a £1m donation to help support design and engineering students studying in the West.

Postgraduate bursaries will be available to prospective engineering students at the University of Bath and Bristol University from September.

Sir James has often spoken out at Britain's lack of engineering graduates.

He has also struggled to recruit at his Malmesbury-based vacuum cleaner firm.

He said: "Studying design and engineering is costly. But it's vital."
