Wiltshire drivers warned over icy conditions after 13 crashes

Wiltshire Police have warned about dangerous driving conditions after there were 13 accidents across the county following overnight frost.

They all involved cars coming off the road, although no serious injuries have been reported.

The A3102 and A4 from Beckhampton to Marlborough have been closed.

There is also ice on the A361 between Devizes and Beckhampton and the A4361 between Avebury and Wroughton, but these roads remain open.

Gritters have been called out to make the roads safe.

Bill Parkes, from Wiltshire Highways, said they gritted the main road network at 20:00 GMT on Friday.

"We had intended to go at 7pm last night on the main network but because we were advised by our forecast providers that rain was coming through, we held the gritters till 8pm and we gritted all the main network.

"But we had a number of showers which passed through the county overnight and this has fallen on frozen, cold surfaces and this has led to the problems we've got this morning."
