Thousands of people gathered in Salisbury to greet the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh as the monarch continued her Diamond Jubilee Tour.

The couple travelled to Sherborne in Dorset on Tuesday before arriving in the Wiltshire city on the Royal Train.

The royal party was then taken to several places around the city and had lunch at The Rifles Regimental Museum.

Wiltshire Council said it had ordered 4,000 Union flags and 2,000 metres of bunting for the visit.

Sunshine greeted the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh as they visited Salisbury Cathedral and Cathedral Close.

At the cathedral, the royal couple spoke to children working on a Magna Carta project and met stonemasons.

They then watched a performance by the band of the Prince of Wales's Division.

The Queen unveiled a plaque commemorating the visit before returning to Salisbury Station ahead of her visit to Yeovil and Crewkerne in Somerset and Exeter in Devon on Wednesday.

The royal couple are into their their second month of visits to every region of the UK.
