A funeral and a thanksgiving service have been held for a solicitor who was shot in the head at his office in Devizes.

James Ward, 58, was shot at Morris, Goddard & Ward Solicitors on 2 July. He died three weeks later in hospital.

A private family cremation was held earlier, followed by a thanksgiving service at St John's Church in Devizes.

Michael Chudley, 62, of no fixed address, is currently charged with the attempted murder of Mr Ward.

Mr Ward, who was the principal solicitor of the legal firm in St John's Street, Devizes, had been working at his desk when he was shot.

Described as "caring and inspiring", he is survived by his wife Nicky, their three children, and his mother, Susan.

Mr Chudley, originally from Rowde in Wiltshire, is also charged with making threats to kill and firearms offences.

He will appear at Winchester Crown Court on 24 September.
