Gloucester railway station upgrade officially opened

Disabled passengers should find access improved, Network Rail said

A £2.9m upgrade of Gloucester railway station has been officially opened after 12 months of improvement work.

Disabled access has been upgraded at the station under the Department for Transport's Access for All programme.

Improvements include a new footbridge, two lifts, ticket gates and a new booking office.

First Great Western and Network Rail have also made access via the station entrance to all platforms easier.

The improvement work was officially opened in an unveiling ceremony by MP Richard Graham who has been campaigning for the improvements since 2007.

Patrick Hallgate, Network Rail's Western route Managing Director, said: "These improvements will enhance the environment for passengers using Gloucester Station and make it easier for people with disabilities to access the railway."
