Some Swindon bus services cut and others revised as subsidy lost

The changes came into operation on Sunday

Bus passengers in Swindon will face changes to some services as £200,000 in council subsidies are cut.

Last month the borough council decided which routes would lose cash from the local authority.

A number of bus routes are to be changed with the 26, which ran between the bus station and Rodbourne, being withdrawn completely.

The 47, between Swindon and Lambourn, has also been cut but some of the route will be taken on by another operator.

The replacement 90 service will be run by the Go Ride community interest company and part-funded by West Berkshire and Oxfordshire councils.

However this service will run via Pack Hill in Wanborough and so will not serve Lower Wanborough.

Councillor Keith Williams, with responsibility for transport on Swindon Borough Council, said the authority had been paying "significantly more" because the route 47 took served two other counties and "relatively few" Swindon passengers.

"We were paying the lion's share of the subsidy on the bus so the arrangement we've come to now is far more representative of the passengers travelling in.

"We've taken roughly £50,000 out of the cost for a broadly similar service."
