Swindon residents will pay for green waste recycling

  • Published

People living in Swindon will have to start paying for their green waste to be recycled, from April.

Swindon Borough Council said introducing a charge for green waste collections could save £720,000 a year,

The new £40 annual charge was agreed by councillors in a meeting on Thursday. The price includes a special bin to put waste in.

About 5,000 people took part in a public consultation to give their views on the matter.

It was also agreed by councillors that areas of Swindon which currently have weekly recycling collections will be changed to fortnightly.
