Secretary of State calls in Wiltshire solar farm plans

Plans for a huge solar farm at a former airfield in Wiltshire have been called in by the Secretary of State.

It means a public inquiry will now be held to determine whether more than 150,000 panels should be installed on the old RAF Wroughton site.

The 170-acre (67 hectare) site is owned by the Science Museum Group (SMG) which stores 30,000 objects in old hangars.

A group spokesman said he was confident a planning inspector would recommend in favour of the project going ahead.
