Caen Hill Locks: Fish stunned and moved for lock repairs

  • Published

Hundreds of fish are to be moved from Caen Hill Locks in Wiltshire while repairs are made to the gates.

Some 300lbs (136kg) of fish will be removed using an electrical current to stun the fish so they can be scooped up and removed safely.

The Canal and Rivers Trust said the method does not harm the fish which will be moved to a place nearby.

A section of the 200-year-old flight in Devizes will then be drained to give access to the lock gates.
