A second person has been arrested on suspicion of murder after the fatal stabbing of a man.

Police said they attended Broad Street in Swindon at about 21:00 BST on Tuesday, after receiving a report a man in his 40s had been stabbed.

The victim later died in hospital and officers have arrested a man, also in his 40s, and a woman in her 30s.

A police cordon has been put in place in Broad Street and at a second location in Galsworthy Close.

Both suspects remain in police custody while questioning takes place, police said.

Senior investigating officer, Det Ch Insp Phil Walker said: "Our investigation is continuing at pace, and we have made a second arrest in connection with the incident.

"A woman was arrested at midday today on suspicion of murder and has been taken into custody for questioning.

"We are not looking for anybody else in connection with this incident, however we are continuing to conduct extensive enquiries and residents will continue to see an increased police presence across the town."

Supt Joe Saunders, of Wiltshire Police, said he understood knife crime was a cause for concern within the community.

"We are going to do a painstaking investigation to find out, on behalf of those that are affected, what it is that has occurred.

"Keep an eye out for each other. If you have concerns, you can report it.

"We'd much rather be proactive about knife crime than reactive," he said.

The victim's next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers, Wiltshire Police said.

Residents are likely to see an increased police presence in the area while the force investigates.

Officers have urged anyone with information to come forward.
