The Swindon Wildcats ice hockey team have confirmed they will be back on the ice following flooding in September.

The ice rink was forced to close after heavy rainfall knocked out the power supply to the GLL Link Centre ice rink.

The ice rink will reopen to the public on Monday, 18 December.

Wiltshire's only ice hockey team will be back on 16 December, for their first home game since the closure against Sheffield Steeldogs.

Head coach Aaron Nell said: "We will survive and recover but it has been a difficult few months.

"I know what it has cost the club, sadly. There's been a lot of investment over the past few months but it has cost us a lot of money."

Mr Nell said he remembered the disaster and seeing the ice rink under several inches of water.

The team has been training in Bristol during the intermittent period, but has had to travel away for every game.

Mr Nell added: "The players, I couldn't have asked more from them."

"I am very relieved to get us back up and running. We are really excited to get back home."

Swindon Wildcats will also face Leeds Knights on Sunday, 17 December.

The Wildcats are currently 2nd in the National Ice Hockey League, ten points behind Telford Tigers.
