A cygnet found on a busy A-road has been rescued by police, in a Hot Fuzz-style incident.

Wiltshire Police officers came across the baby swan sitting on the A361.

An officer was pictured chasing the cygnet down the busy road, bearing similarities to the moment Simon Pegg's character in the comedy film is sent to catch an escaped swan.

Quoting the film on Facebook, the force said: "No luck catching them swans then? Yarp. It's just the one."

In the 2007 film, Gloucestershire actor Simon Pegg, playing police officer Nicholas Angel getting to grips with rural policing, is taunted by a local shop keeper as he tries to trap the swan.

Wiltshire Police said: "Our proactive Roads Policing Unit thankfully came across this cygnet sitting on the southbound carriageway of the A361.

"Devizes Neighbourhood team attended with a van and the swan was very deftly handled by the RPU sergeant, placed in the van and released on The Crammer."
