Ashton Keynes: Puppies rescued from roadside

Six puppies have been rescued by Wiltshire Council after they were abandoned by the side of a road.

The eight-week-old crossbreeds were found by a member of the public in the Ashton Keynes area of Wiltshire on Monday.

Nick Holder, public protection cabinet member for the authority, said the puppies were possibly a poodle cross.

He added that if no one came forward to claim them, they would be rehomed through Bath Cats and Dogs Home.

The fawn-coloured litter of puppies were spotted at the roadside in the village of Leigh.

Wiltshire Council said none of the puppies had been microchipped

The council said the dogs were a mix of sexes but none of the animals had been microchipped.

Mr Holder added the dogs weighed between 3kgs (6.6lbs) and 4.5kgs (9.9lbs ) and all appeared to be healthy.

"We will hold them in our stray kennels for seven days, which is a legal requirement, and if no one comes forward to claim them they will be rehomed through Bath Cats and Dogs Home who we work closely with for all our stray dogs," he said.

"The puppies all have potential adopters."
