The family of a grandfather who died after a serious assault have said he "will be greatly missed by many".

Terry Ricketts, 53, died after the attack in Westbourne Court, Rodbourne, in the early hours of Sunday.

Grant Walker, 32, from Faringdon Road, Swindon, has since been charged with his murder.

In a statement, his family said he was a "devoted husband, the best dad and granddad to his six grandchildren".

"He was a good friend to many and would give the shirt off his back to help anyone in any way he could," it added.

His family said he "loved pottering about doing anything to do with DIY" and "adored" fishing.

They said: "His happy place was always down by a lake."

Mr Walker, who is also charged with assault on an emergency worker, was remanded in custody after appearing at Bristol Crown Court on Wednesday.

He will next appear at Bristol Crown Court on 2 April for a plea and trial preparation hearing.

Meanwhile, a GoFundMe has been set up by Mr Rickett's family to raise funds for his funeral.
