Yorkshire Dales authority grant is slashed

Government cash for the Yorkshire Dales national park will be cut by more than a quarter over the next four years, officials have said.
The cash allocated to the park authority will reduce from £5.1m over 2011/2012 to £4.2m by 2015.
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) had given £5.4m for 2010/11.
Officials said that, including inflation, the cuts represented a drop of 28.5% over the four years.
Dales chairman Carl Lis said "it was impossible to pretend this was anything other than bad news."
Mr Lis said: "It clearly represents a major challenge over the four years.
"However, we are where we are so there is no point bleating about it.
"We have a responsibility to the national park, its communities and the country, so we will face up to the difficulties of putting together a budget that takes into account these cuts."
