Four sites removed from Yorkshire Dales housing plan

Four areas which were earmarked for housing development in the Yorkshire Dales National Park have been excluded from proposals.

The planning inspector has proposed the rejection of sites in Aysgarth, Low Row, Muker and Thornton Rust, which would have provided 10 new homes.

The inspector, David Vickery, said in a report that the sites did not meet criteria.

Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority (YDNPA) said it was disappointed.

Originally, 34 sites across the national park were identified for the Housing Development Plan, which would have provided up to 246 new homes over 15 years.

Carl Lis, the YDNPA's chairman, said: "We are disappointed that the inspector is proposing to remove the four sites that the authority felt were vital to the future of the upper Dales, and we will be asking him to reconsider."

Members of the public now have six weeks to have their say on changes to the original plan.

The YDNPA said it expected to receive a full report from the planning inspector in May.
