Tourism bosses hope Londoners wanting to escape the Olympics will chose to visit Yorkshire

Tourism bosses in Yorkshire are hoping Olympic crowds will mean an increase in domestic visitors to the region.

Welcome to Yorkshire said its latest advertising campaign will target Londoners who might wish to get out of the capital during the busy summer.

The campaign will run until May and will feature television and newspaper adverts.

The agency said it would also be mailing more than 250,000 homes in the Greater London area.

Vicky Harris, marketing manager at Welcome to Yorkshire, said the agency was targeting people in London and the South East and simply showing what Yorkshire had to offer.

She said there was some suggestion that Londoners wanted "to get out of the city while the Olympics are on".

"It is an opportunity for us to benefit from that," said Ms Harris.
