Flood protection to homes at risk in Pickering
- Published
Properties at risk of flooding in a town in North Yorkshire are to get individual flood barriers.
The £100,000 scheme in Pickering will see 29 homes and businesses at risk of flooding given waterproof boards that can be fitted to doorways.
A flood defence scheme to protect the town was put on hold last year due to rising costs.
Funding comes from the council, Environment Agency and Yorkshire Regional Flood and Coastal Committee.
Pickering last suffered serious flooding in June 2007.
The Yorkshire Regional Flood and Coastal Committee said it hoped the funding would go some way to reduce the misery that flooding can cause.
The committee raises money for the fund from local authorities across Yorkshire.
