The Reverend Philip North has been appointed as the new Anglican Bishop of Whitby.

He will succeed the Right Reverend Dr Martin Warner, who was appointed Bishop of Chichester in May.

Father North, 45, studied at the University of York and was ordained into the ministry in 1992.

He is currently team rector of the parish of Old St Pancras, London, and was previously the vicar of Holy Trinity in Hartlepool.
