Prison officer Rebecca King's jail term cut

A senior prison officer who was jailed for three years after admitting helping her inmate lover has had her sentence cut by the Court of Appeal.

Rebecca King, of Selby, North Yorkshire was jailed in January for committing misconduct in a public office and concealing criminal property.

King, 33, put credit on partner David Turnbull's mobile phone while he was on remand for drugs offences.

Her jail term was cut to 27 months after lawyers argued it was too harsh.

King had met Turnbull while she was working at Wealstun Prison in Wetherby, West Yorkshire, three appeal court judges heard.

Cash in the attic

Turnbull was in jail for sex offences.

They met again in 2008 following Turnbull's release and started a relationship which continued after he was arrested on suspicion of drugs offences and held on remand in prison pending trial.

King put credit on a mobile phone which Turnbull used while in prison on remand, judges were told.

Police also found more than £9,000 in the attic of her mother's home.

Turnbull was later convicted of drugs offences and given a jail term of almost nine years.

Judges were told King had not committed offences when working in a jail where Turnbull was being held.
