Signaller Tyler Pearson went missing during a night out with friends

Police searching for a soldier who went missing as he tried to swim across a river in York have found a body in the River Ouse.

Signaller Tyler Pearson, 18, of York-based 2nd Signal Regiment, has not been seen since entering the River Ouse in the city centre on 3 April.

The body was recovered at Skeldergate Bridge, North Yorkshire Police said.

The identity of the body is unknown but Signaller Pearson's family has been informed.

The soldier was seen in the water at King's Staith near The Lowther pub at about 02:30 BST on Thursday 3 April.

Police believe he was trying to reach the far bank of the river at Queen's Staith.

Signaller Pearson is thought to have entered the river voluntarily during a night out with a group of friends.
