A man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering Gemma Simpson, who disappeared 14 years ago.

The 44-year-old man was detained in Scarborough on Tuesday night by West Yorkshire Police.

Ms Simpson was 23 when she went missing from her home in Leeds in May 2000.

Det Ch Insp Adrian Taylor said: "An address in Scarborough is currently being examined as part of the investigation and the man remains in custody while our enquiries continue."

He added: "We have notified Gemma's family and will be keeping them informed of any developments."
