Thousands flock to Kettlewell scarecrow festival

Thousands of people have attended the opening weekend of a scarecrow festival in a Yorkshire village.
The annual event has been held in Kettlewell since 1994 and raises money for the local primary school, parish church and village hall.
More than 3,000 people turned out for the start of the festival, which runs until 16 August.
This year's suggested theme is Roald Dahl and West End musicals.
Paul Hatton, who is on the scarecrow committee, said: "It has grown in popularity over the years and we've had a tremendous turn out so far."

Although themes are suggested, participants can come up with their own ideas
Scarecrows appear in gardens, open spaces, hidden corners and even rooftops
He added: "We've had coaches coming from London and Manchester.
"The whole village really gets behind the festival and most of the 200 houses in Kettlewell take part."
Last year's festival raised more than £20,000, Mr Hatton said.
