Two men have been injured in a light aircraft crash near an airfield.

The four-seater plane crashed into a field at the end of Sherburn Aero Club runway near Hambleton, North Yorkshire, at about 11:50 GMT, police said.

Both men were taken to Leeds General Infirmary - one by air ambulance. They have suspected spinal and chest injuries, Yorkshire Ambulance Service said.

There were no other passengers in the aircraft.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said there was a spillage of 45 gallons (200 litres) of aviation fuel but no fire.

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch is carrying out inquiries to establish the circumstances of how the crash happened.
