A bridge over the river Ouse in York which was closed due to a police incident has been reopened.

Police, fire and ambulance services were called to Ouse Bridge at about 03:00 BST on Wednesday.

North Yorkshire Police said it responded after "several reports of a concern for safety of a woman in the area".

The public were asked to avoid the area and the closure prompted traffic delays and diversions to bus routes.

A force spokesperson said the incident had been brought to a "safe conclusion" just after 11:00 BST.

They added the individual involved was receiving the help and support she needed and thanked residents for their understanding.
