Scarborough: Water park closes for winter over energy costs
- Published
A water park has announced it will close for the winter due to "ongoing high costs", including energy bills.
Alpamare in Scarborough said it was with "great sadness" it could not continue trading and would not reopen until spring.
It said the "very high cost of energy needed" to heat indoor and outdoor pools had forced the temporary closure.
Anyone with a booking at the park will receive a refund within three days. Members will receive a pro-rata refund.
The £14m park opened in Scarborough's North Bay in 2016 and features indoor and outdoor pools, waterslides and a spa.
In a statement on its website, Alpamare said: "We are unable to continue trading through the winter due to the ongoing high costs associated with our business (including the very high cost of energy needed to heat our facilities and pools in the winter).
"A brief closure will enable us to carry out essential maintenance and improve energy efficiency."
The park said anyone who had not received a refund by 16 October should contact Alpamare via email.
