Police call for Whitby bar's licence to be revoked over 'disregard' for locals
- Published
A bar in Whitby should lose its licence due to a "complete disregard" for the authorities and residents in the surrounding area, police have said.
The premises licence for JK's bar on Wellington Road had new conditions attached following a review in May.
However, North Yorkshire Police said the bar continued to breach its conditions and its licence should therefore be revoked.
The owners of JK's Bar have been approached for comment.
According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, the police request to North Yorkshire Council's licensing sub-committee followed several months of reviews and meetings in connection with the bar.
'Disorder and anti-social behaviour'
In May, the council's licensing sub-committee ordered the removal of the bar's designated premises supervisor due to the "serious undermining" of licensing objectives.
Councillors also decided that a personal licence holder should be present in its public areas "when the sale of alcohol takes place".
However, North Yorkshire Police said JK's continued to "seriously undermine the licensing objectives" over the prevention of crime and disorder, public safety and the prevention of public nuisance.
The bar showed "a complete disregard not only to the responsible authorities, but to the residents, visitors, and local businesses, because of crime, disorder and anti-social behaviour attributed to the bar", the force said.
Public representations concerning the application for the bar's licence to be revoked are currently being invited by the council, with a deadline of 11 December.
