"Yellow" weather warnings were in place across North Yorkshire on Wednesday morning

Drivers in North Yorkshire have been warned to take extra care because of wintry conditions affecting the roads.

The A169 between Whitby and Pickering in the North York Moors was shut overnight, but has since re-opened.

The council said gritters and ploughs had been working on the route, which had been closed due to snow and ice.

A "yellow" weather warning for snow and ice is in place until at least 11:00 GMT on Wednesday for areas including Helmsley and Malton.

A separate warning which includes Thirsk is in place from 17:00 GMT until 11:00 GMT on Thursday.
