Car driver dies and passenger critical after A64 York crash

A man has died and a woman has been left critically injured in a road crash on the A64 near York.
The collision, which involved a blue Mazda 2 car and a blue DAF horsebox, happened at about 15:05 GMT on Tuesday.
North Yorkshire Police said the car driver, a man in his 60s, died at the scene, while a woman in her 70s was in hospital in a critical condition.
The horsebox driver, a woman in her 50s from Leeds, suffered minor injuries, a police spokesperson said.
Two horses in the vehicle were treated by a vet for minor injuries, they added.
North Yorkshire Police have appealed for anyone with information about the collision, which took place at the junction with Towthorpe Moor Lane and Common Lane, to come forward.
