A man who fell into a 20ft (6m) deep pit on a farm in North Yorkshire has been rescued by emergency crews.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said the man had fallen into the empty corn pit at Thixendale at about 04:45 GMT on Friday.

Officers from Malton Fire Station worked alongside the Yorkshire Ambulance Service to pull him out.

The man, in his 60s, had sustained a leg injury, a spokesperson for the fire service said.

They added crews had worked with the hazardous area response team to bring the injured man to safety "using rescue lines and a pulley system".
