Two men in their 70s were injured when the light aircraft they were in crashed, police have said.
Emergency services were called to Leeds East Airport, formerly RAF Church Fenton, near Tadcaster just after 17:00 BST on Thursday.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said the aircraft was found on its roof and the men were taken to hospital.
In an update on Friday, North Yorkshire Police said one of the men was in a critical condition.
An investigation into the crash was under way, a force spokesperson added.
According to the fire service, crews from Tadcaster, Selby, Acomb and York attended and assisted in "making the light fixed-wing aircraft safe".
First aid was given to the plane's occupants before the arrival of paramedics and the incident was left in the hands of the police and airport management company, the fire service said.
The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) said the aircraft was believed to be a Cessna T210M Turbo Centurion.
A spokesperson said: "The AAIB have been notified of a light aircraft accident at Leeds East Airport and have deployed a team of inspectors to commence an investigation."
