Whitby: Renovation plans approved for harbour restaurant
- Published
Renovation plans have been approved for a new harbourside restaurant in North Yorkshire.
The Pescado Lounge is set to open at the site of Whitby's former Star Inn the Harbour, a Michelin-listed eatery which shut in late 2022.
Changes to the building include new windows, doors and access steps, with the restaurant set to open on Monday.
Council officers said the changes to the pagoda-style building were considered "minimal in nature".
The red-brick and sandstone building lies within the town's conservation zone in a location with busy footfall.
The Bristol-based owner, which operates more than 200 venues nationwide, has also submitted a licensing application for the Langborne Road venue, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.
According to the applicant, The Pescado Lounge will be "a neighbourhood café-bar combining elements of a restaurant, British pub and coffee shop culture".
A North Yorkshire Council report concluded the proposed renovation was "considered to be of a good standard of design and would correspond well with the host building and surrounding area".
