Two men have been charged in connection with a violent attack in York.

The men, aged 26 and 29, were arrested on Tuesday by officers investigating an assault on a man on 19 April.

Both men were charged with wounding with intent, police said. The 29-year-old was also charged with witness intimidation, criminal damage, assaulting an emergency worker and possession of an offensive weapon.

They were remanded in custody and will appear before magistrates on Thursday.

The 26-year-old man had also been recalled back to prison, according to North Yorkshire Police.

Another man, in his 60s, who was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the attack had been released on conditional bail, a force spokesperson said.

Two women, aged 41 and 43, and a 54-year-old man who were previously arrested over the incident remained on bail while inquiries continued, they added.

North Yorkshire Police asked anyone with information about the assault to get in touch.

Det Ch Insp Fionna McEwan said: "I continue to appeal to anyone who has any information to please come forward."
