People are being asked for their views on plans to create a village near York.

More than 3,000 homes and two primary schools could be built near the villages of Cattal, Whixley, Green Hammerton and Kirk Hammerton, between Harrogate and York.

Caddick, the developer, said a public consultation will be held in Kirk Hammerton on Tuesday.

The development aims to address the "acute housing shortage", North Yorkshire Council said.

The event will be held in the village hall from 14:00 - 18:00 BST. The local community will be able to see the latest proposals, external and speak with developers, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.

Caddick said it wanted "valuable feedback" on revised plans.

Director Chris Procter said the plans would deliver "much-needed" housing for the area.

He said the newest proposals include enhanced transport infrastructure and amenities, and a "biodiversity net gain strategy" to create a "sustainable and connected community".

Ouseburn councillor Arnold Warneken urged people living nearby to attend the consultation.

He said the developer still does not own "a large section of land around Cattal station".

In December, North Yorkshire Council said they may have to use a compulsory purchase order as a "last resort" to force through the sale after a key landowner pulled out.
