Elderly woman rescued in Antrim flooding

Prolonged heavy rain on Monday has caused flooding in several parts of Northern Ireland.

In one incident an elderly woman was carried to safety from her home in Antrim.

Firefighters rescued the 77-year-old from Edenduff Terrace at about 15:00 BST.

Police have also warned motorists to exercise extreme caution when driving in Fermanagh and Tyrone due to surface water and flooding.

Heavy rain and water run-off from fields has caused problems in the Tempo, Ballinamallard and Fintona areas of Fermanagh.

The route from Belcoo and Blacklion and beyond is also said to be posing problems.

Businessman Walter Campbell said he was up to his knees in water in his workshop near Ballinamallard.

"All the machinery is gone. It's pretty tough because of the way things are at the minute," he added.

"It's tough on me - it looks like we are out of business basically."

Northern Ireland has been battered with driving rain throughout Monday while there was also skiff of snow over the Glenshane Pass.

The Fire and Rescue Service has attended other flooding incidents in Cookstown and at Station Road in Antrim.

Meanwhile, Monday night's Irish League football game between Belfast's "Big Two", Linfield and Glentoran, has been postponed due to the weather.

The forecast for Monday night is for some clear spells and blustery showers, which could turn wintry over the Sperrins.

Gales could develop along the north Coast.

Tuesday will have some bright or sunny spells but also further showers, which will be heavy at times with snow on hills.
