Nine police officers have been disciplined for failing to ensure the disappearance of a Fermanagh teenager was treated urgently.

Daniel Mohan, 16, went missing on 25 April 2010. His body was found in Lough Erne five days later.

A police ombudsman's report, carried in the Impartial Reporter, found investigative and supervisory failings.

It said some staff did not review police actions aimed at finding Daniel quickly.

The ombudsman's investigation followed complaints made by the dead teenager's parents.

Some of their allegations were not substantiated, but the ombudsman found there were investigative and supervisory failings in the first 32 hours after Daniel disappeared.

It said duty inspectors and sergeants failed to correctly risk assess, record, enquire and review police actions in an effort to locate Daniel in an "expeditious and thorough manner".

Nine officers have since been disciplined for failing to ensure Daniel's disappearance was treated more urgently. A number of officers have also undergone missing persons training.

Daniel's mother Tracey McMulkin told the Impartial Reporter that while she felt a sense of relief that the report was now complete, her pain and torment continued.
