Asthma UK said the condition was the most common in schools.

A charity is seeking a change in the law to allow schools to have inhalers available for asthma emergencies.

Thousand of children in Northern Ireland suffer from the condition. Joan O'Hagan, from Asthma UK, said they were needlessly at risk.

"It's the most common long-term condition in schools," she said.

"There are approximately 19,000 who are at risk currently, who perhaps have forgotten their inhaler and there isn't one available to them."
