Riot police go into the Shamrock Rovers end during the trouble

There were disturbances during Linfield's Setanta Cup defeat against Shamrock Rovers at Windsor Park on Monday night.

Flares were thrown from the North Stand which housed Shamrock Rovers supporters. The fans also clashed with riot police.

It followed trouble between the teams in Dublin during the first leg of their quarter-final last week.

A police statement said it involved "a section of Shamrock Rovers fans".

"Police restored calm within the grounds and all fans were able to leave the match safely after the final whistle."

Linfield trailed 4-1 after the first leg last week and the tie finished 7-2 on aggregate.
