Dream car needed for Belfast MAC's big night out

It was a dream car that bolstered Belfast in tough times and played a starring role in a cult film.

Now, the artistic powers at Belfast's MAC arts centre want a DeLorean for a night to remember.

They have put out an appeal to any owners of the iconic car. with the gull wing doors, in the hope that someone will lend them their wheels for a night.

It will take pride of place at a special club night to celebrate the 1980s film, Back to the Future.

The event, at the MAC on Saturday 15 February, will transport clubbers on a nostalgic trip back to 1955 and give them the chance to relive Back to the Future's Hill Valley High School Prom.

The venue is recreating the Enchantment Under the Sea Dance from the film and the MAC's restaurant, Canteen, will be transformed into a 50s diner, serving up burgers, fries and shakes, while customers can get their 50s look completed at the MAC's pop-up salon specialising in quiffs, rolls and flicks.

But the final piece of the jigsaw is a DeLorean.

The car that was made in Northern Ireland by US motor executive John DeLorean and became a legend - even after the dream nosedived and the Belfast jobs were lost - was centre stage in the film.

Gillian Mitchell, director of programmes at the MAC, said: "We have everything in place for a truly authentic Prom Night experience - all we need is a DeLorean, which must be one of the most iconic vehicles in movie history.

"If any DeLorean owners would like their vehicle to feature on the night, providing the ideal photo opportunity, we would really appreciate you getting in touch and bringing your car along."
