Les Allamby is the new Northern Ireland Human Rights commissioner.
He is the fourth person to hold the post, following in the footsteps of Michael O'Flaherty, Monica McWilliams and Brice Dickson.
Mr Allamby is a solicitor, a former director of the Law Centre in Northern Ireland and a member of the Strategic Migration Partnership.
He was appointed by NI Secretary Theresa Villiers for a five-year term. He will be paid £65,442 per year.
'Vital work'
Mr Allamby said; "This week I will be chairing public hearings into accident and emergency care in Northern Ireland as part of the commission's Human Rights Inquiry into Emergency Care in Northern Ireland.
"This is just one vital piece of work the commission has undertaken, amongst many," he said.
"I look forward to what the role of chief commissioner brings and to continuing the organisation's work of promoting and protecting the rights of everyone in Northern Ireland."
