Anglers found the dead fish and said the numbers killed could run into hundreds
Hundreds of fish have been discovered dead in a river in County Antrim, an angling club has said.
The fish were found in the Ballymartin Water, a tributary of the main Six Mile Water, near Mallusk, on Monday.
The Antrim and District Angling Association said more than 200 fish were dead in a 150m stretch of river.
An Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) inspector found more than 40 dead fish upstream at a water discharge point from an industrial estate.
The river was discoloured and an investigation has begun to find the source of the pollution.
The dead fish are said to be mostly trout.
A spokesman for the Department of the Environment said samples had been collected in an attempt to determine the environmental impact of the pollution.
Environment Minister Mark H Durkan is due to meet other politicians to discuss what can be done to prevent further fish kills in the area.
