Det Supt Eamonn Corrigan said: "No one deserves to be killed, or killed in a brutal manner like this."

Det Supt Eamonn Corrigan said it was a "targeted attack"

He added: "These gunmen were completely reckless and dangerous in their actions.

"They fired shots in a street - a street in which a child was standing - and this child would've been visible to the gunmen.

"We could have been dealing with multiple fatalities today."

Det Supt Corrigan said it was a "targeted" attack.

He said that the victim, who was in his 30s, had been in the living room when the attack happened, along with a number of other family members, who narrowly avoided injury.

His sister was returning from a local shop when she saw the gunmen approaching the house.

She tried to intervene before the shots were fired. As the gunmen made off, they fired a shot at her, which "passed through her handbag".
