A woman has appeared in court charged with the murder of Tony Browne in west Belfast on Friday.

Wiktoria Maksymowicz, 33, from Woodside Park in Poleglass, appeared via video link at Lisburn Magistrates' Court

Mr Browne, who was 54, was stabbed at a property in Woodside Park at about 22:05 BST.

He was taken to hospital but later died from his injuries, according to the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI).

Ms Maksymowicz, who is a Polish national, spoke through an interpreter to confirm she understood the charge of murder against her.

She made no application for bail and is due to appear in court again on 14 November via video link.

Meanwhile, Patricia Browne, Mr Browne's sister, said his death had "traumatised" his family.

Speaking outside his Poleglass home where flowers have been laid in his memory, she said: "Tony was our youngest brother… we just can't get our heads around it.

"I'm lost for words. I can't get it. Tony wouldn't hurt a fly. He had three beautiful kids: two wee twins he just adored and a son.

"He would have told me that he couldn't wait to see them walk down the aisle; how gorgeous they were.

"It's never going to happen."

Ms Browne said the family was in shock.

"I don't know how we move on from this… His poor kids, his poor wee son."

She described her brother as "a big gentle giant" who enjoyed talking to his neighbours and was loved by them.
