An elderly couple have been left shaken after masked men entered their home with a pitchfork during an aggravated burglary in County Armagh.

It happened on Monroe Avenue in Lurgan at about 06:00 GMT on Sunday morning.

The men demanded money before taking a purse and making off in a white car. The couple were unharmed but faced a terrifying ordeal, police said.

It was one of two separate armed burglaries to take place in the town overnight.

In the other incident, which police are not treating as linked, three masked men with screwdrivers and hammers came into a house in Toberhewny Park.

Police said the men entered through the back door at about 20:30 on Saturday night.

The burglars dragged a man in the property into another room, before leaving with a sum of cash.

Police said there were no injuries but that it was a frightening incident for the two occupants.

They have appealed for anyone with information about either burglary or who have relevant dashcam footage to contact them.
