Dunmurry: Man charged following kidnapping and assault

A 30-year-old man has been charged after a man, also in his 30s was kidnapped and assaulted in a "terrifying ordeal" that began on the outskirts of west Belfast on Saturday.

The victim was forced into a blue van on Upper Dunmurry Lane just after 12:00 GMT.

Police said they believed the victim was driven around for two to three hours before being taken to a nearby property where he was assaulted.

His injuries are not life-threatening.

Police arrested a man and have now charged him with kidnapping, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, burglary with intent to steal, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and possession of a class C controlled drug.

He is expected to appear before Lisburn Magistrates' Court on Monday.

"This was a terrifying ordeal for the victim," said Det Sgt McCartan from the Police Service of Northern Ireland.

"We are keen to speak to anyone who was in the Upper Dunmurry Lane, Colin, Poleglass or Twinbrook area of Dunmurry yesterday between 12:00 and 16:00 and saw anything which could assist us."

Detectives also want anyone who has dashcam or CCTV footage of the locations concerned to contact them.
