In pictures: Freezing weather hits Northern Ireland

While it may look pretty, snow and ice is causing plenty of disruption in Northern Ireland, particularly in the west.

Temperatures plummeted overnight, with a Met Office warning for snow and ice in place until midday on Wednesday. This was the scene in Armoy, County Antrim

The north west bore the brunt of the cold weather, with a number of schools closed

Carrickmore in County Tyrone saw a blanketing of the white stuff

In the Republic of Ireland, warnings for snow and ice have also been issued across counties Donegal, Leitrim, and Sligo

There were snow-capped scenes at Mullaghmore Head in County Sligo
